The Windmills of Sonoma County
The windmills, few and far between, the last of a dying breed as work horses' are from a time of self reliance.
Perched precariously on long legs or bolted to a tower these are proud beasts who pumped our water before the Rural Electrification Act of 1935.
A turn of time, that year, when the windmill was than only useful to places where electricity was too far away.
There are still a few resilient machines delivering water in times of rolling electrical blackouts when the needs of the many in the cities exceed those of the few.
We are fortunate that we may enjoy the sight of the few that still stand proud.
We nod our head to those who are falling.
...and to those who are no longer around.
